How an agitated state can be diagnosed

To identify what is responsible for your agitated state, your doctor will begin by taking your medical history.  Your lifestyle will also be investigated by your doctor because it could be one of the reasons why you are experiencing agitations.

If he presupposes from his medical history that there is an underlying mental health anomaly, you will be referred to a mental health specialist for further evaluation. But if his speculations after taking your medical history do point to a mental condition as its cause, then he will conclude that a rather physical condition is responsible. He will be prompted to carry out further investigative tests. Your blood sample will be collected and assessed for any hormonal abnormalities. Fluids can also be collected from you for assessment and these will include your urineand spinal fluid.

If a mental case is suspected, your psychiatrist can ask that you do an MRI scan. A CT scan can also be ordered for so as to view your brain.

How is an agitated state treated?

Once the likely causes have been distinguished, the treatment option can be determined.

When the cause of agitation is stress, your doctor will propose a variety of techniques that can allow you relax.

Any of the following techniques can be included; yoga, deep breathing exercises, and indeed other meditative exercise.

Meditation can help you create a state of peace in your body and mind.

You can participate in activities you quite enjoy doing. It will really help to reduce your stress.

If meditative exercises and normal exercises don’t help your situation, a psychotherapist will have to be brought in to help you.

As a smart person that you are, your smartness should help you recognize potential stressors and avoid contacts with them. In cases where you can’t avoid them, you can minimize your interactions with them.

There are times you have to confront some of these stressors head-ons. For instance, if you have been given so many tasks to do at work and they have become very overwhelming for you, you should approach your supervisor or boss and come to a compromise.

Mental illness

If a mental illness such as anxiety or depression was diagnosed as the reason for your agitation, you will be given medications indicated for anxiety or depression as the case may be.

You might also be recommended to a psychologist (counselor). There are times that the two approaches might be needed to make you feel better. From your talk sessions during your time with a psychologist, you will be able to share how you feel and other things that bother you with him. From your interactions, the psychologist will be better informed on how he could better help you.

Hormonal imbalances

If your agitation is as a result of a hormonal imbalance, you will be placed on a special treatment called hormone replacement therapy. In this special treatment, the hormone that is produced in less quantity will be introduced into your body. A hormone specialist otherwise called an endocrinologist might have to be recommended for you.

Brain tumor

If a brain tumor is associated with your agitated state, the size, location, and type of the tumor will be assessed. This exercise is needed for the appropriate treatment approach determination.

If the tumor is not serious in size, a chemotherapy treatment approach will be adopted. Chemotherapy will shrink the tumor and render it harmless to your body.

If the tumor is a large one and a threat to surrounding organs, a surgical approach will be adopted in removing it from your body. But in instances where the tumor can neither be removed nor shrank, it will be placed under a close monitor by your doctor. During this period, changes in the tumor will be monitored. Tumors that are monitored are usually those that are extremely dangerous to remove.

What is the outlook for an agitated state?

Your outlook for agitation is determined by the reason behind it. And the reason in-turn determines the treatment approach that will be adopted. In instances where your agitation is caused by stress, managing the cause of the stress can handle your agitation. And there are other instances that you will have to take some prescription medications and your condition will be fine.

Other treatments options can be prescribed to you by your doctor. You can ask for him for this.
