DOES CBD GET YOU HIGH? Let’s Examine the Facts

Does CBD get you high? We will get a detailed answer to this question from this article.

CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol. It is a phytochemical found in hemp and cannabis.

Hemp and cannabis plants have hundreds of compounds, thus CBD is only one of these compounds. However, CBD has garnered more attention due to its legalization by some state and federal laws.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is another phytochemical that is present in hemp. Tetrahydrocannabinol has psychoactive effects when consumed with marijuana, or cannabis.

THC makes you “high”. “High” is a term that describes a mental state characterized by pleasure, euphoria, or very high sensory perception.

We have asked the question “does CBD get you high?” Well, it is important to know that CBD doesn’t get you “high” like THC. Cannabidiol has some good health benefits. For instance, it helps people with depression and anxiety. So if you think that CBD can get you high, then you’re mistaken because you will not experience it.

WHY DO PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY CAN GET HIGH ON CBD?

CBD and THC occur naturally in the cannabis plant. Both compounds can be isolated from the plant. CBD can be infused into edibles, oils, tinctures, and a host of products without the high-inducing THC.

Most people still assume that cannabidiol has a high effect on marijuana because both compounds occur in the same plant. But we will emphasize once again that the answer to the question “does CBD get you high?” is a resounding NO!!! CBD on its own has no intoxicating effects. It will not cause a high.

Another important point to note is that CBD can be extracted from the hemp plant. Hemp also has no psychoactive effects.

Note that many states have legalized hemp-derived CBD products. By law, these products can only contain 0.3% THC and no more. This amount is too negligible to cause any psychoactive effects.

CAN CBD OIL GET YOU HIGH?

CBD can be added to many products once it is extracted from cannabis or hemp. Examples of CBD-infused products include oils, lotions, and tinctures.

Cannabidiol oil is a well-known CBD product. CBD oil can be administered sublingually (underneath the tongue). It can also be added to vape pens, food, and drinks.

Proponents of these products say that they are a natural way to lower anxiety or relax. Studies have shown that CBD can reduce anxiety symptoms and symptoms of depression.

If you take cannabidiol in high concentrations, you may experience an uplifting effect. However, this is different from “high.”

Another important point to note is that cannabidiol in high doses can cause some side effects, such as dizziness, and nausea. If this happens, you may not even experience the “uplifting effect.”

COMPARING CANNABIDIOL & THC

Cannabidiol & THC are both found in cannabis. They have a high sensitivity to cannabinoid type 1 receptors. These receptors are present in the brain. However, the way that these compounds impact the cells gives a basic explanation of why they produce different results.

These receptors are activated by THC. The activation of these receptors causes the high or euphoria that is typical of marijuana.

Cannabidiol is an antagonist of the CB1 receptor. It inhibits the intoxicating effect caused by the CB1 receptors. So if you take cannabidiol with THC, it will inhibit the effects of THC.

It suffices to say that Cannabidiol has an inhibitory action on the “high” effects.

HEALTH EFFECTS OF CANNABIDIOL

Cannabidiol has many positive benefits. Evidence-based research shows that cannabidiol can help a person to feel relaxed.

Studies have shown that Cannabidiol improves the symptoms of depression and anxiety. It might also improve pain and inflammatory symptoms.

Cannabidiol may also relief seizures in epileptic patients. Epidiolex, the first CBD-based medication was approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of epileptic seizures in 2018.

Also, cannabidiol has the potential to ease the side effects of antipsychotic medication in patients with schizophrenia.

Users of CBD-rich marijuana strains may be able to prevent the psychosis that is associated with THC.

As more research is being done on hemp- and cannabis-derived CBD, health professionals will understand better the mechanism of actions of cannabidiol and the most likely beneficiaries.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH CANNABIDIOL?

According to the World Health Organization, cannabidiol is safe. However, there is a need for further research to fully understand the spectrum of effects and potential uses.

Even though cannabidiol is generally accepted, some people may experience some side effects when they take cannabidiol at high concentrations. Side effects of cannabidiol (at high concentrations) include:

  • Dry mouth
  • Mild nausea
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness

If you are taking any prescription medications, please consult your doctor before you use cannabidiol. Some medications may be contraindicated because of cannabidiol. These medications may also interact with cannabidiol and cause some side effects.

ARE CBD PRODUCTS LEGALIZED?

Cannabis is still classified as a controlled substance by the United States federal law. In December 2018, the prohibition on hemp plants was lifted by Congress. This implies that cannabidiol derived from hemp is legal in the United States unless prohibited by individual states.

By law, all cannabidiol products can contain a maximum of 0.3% THCX. In states where recreational or medical cannabis is legal, marijuana-derived CBD can also be found. CBD-to-THC ratio will vary according to the product.
